Sushi King – Midnight Special
The other night we went out to indulge in Japanese food again. Because it was a Friday, we wanted to go to Yanagi Sushi for our usual late night specials. However, when we got there at 11:40 pm, it was packed with a 40 minute wait! Yanagi is great but not “waiting around while you’re starving at midnight” great. So we quickly set off for our next late night choice: Sushi King.
Sushi King has a set late night menu as you can see. And like Yanagi, the special prices also start at 10:30 pm.
First we started off with some drinks. (That’s not my beer, although I did taste it – very nice!) I’m usually just a green tea and water kind of girl.
Next came the miso soup. Sushi King serves a very hearty tonjiru type miso soup. This differs very much from the standard miso soup with tofu usually seen at Japanese restaurants. In Sushi King’s tonjiru miso soup I usually see ingredients like pork, carrots, daikon, onion, and konnyaku in my bowl.
My order for the evening was unagi with spicy tuna roll.
Our second order was the tempura and California roll combo. Typically we trade with each other so that we get lots of variety. So it would be more accurate to say that night I had an unagi, tempura, spicy tuna and California roll combo.
Did I mention we were starving? About half way through the combo platters, we realized that we’d still be hungry after finishing what we had on our plates. The solution? One more order of sushi! This one is a salmon and avocado roll, one of my favorites!
