Reunion Potluck and a Garden Tour

Reunion Lunch

Last week I went with my mom to a potluck with her cousins. Good food as always and nice company. We had (starting from the top left) spam musubi, mochi rice with lup cheong, chicken wings, ribs, chicken spinach mushroom casserole, pasta salad, and mandoo. I don’t have a picture of it but as you can imagine there was also lots of dessert!

FYI – If anyone is interested in local Hawaii/Japanese literature, check out An Offering of Rice. It includes personal stories written by one of my mom’s cousins…the one that made that awesome lup cheong mochi rice!

Besides the food and company, one other thing I always look forward to when parties are held at this particular cousin’s house is taking a walk around the backyard. It’s really misleading to call it that, it’s actually more like a botanical garden or park. Take a look and see for yourself!

I wish I had a garden like that…but I imagine it must take just a little more effort than my dying potted plant on the balcony.

Hey rowena,
It tastes like fried rice with lup cheong…but the rice is a little more sticky. It’s very ono! :D

Every morning should start off like this — with an image of a plate lunch on your monitor (and I don’t even care if I’ve already seen it yesterday).

Regarding your comment on the coconut tree climber, I never got the hang of it myself even if I have luau feet! :-D
