So sweet, and from the Big Island

Safeway Sandwich

I don’t usually think of the supermarket as a lunch destination, but the other day I was talked into trying one of the sandwiches from Safeway. I was a little skeptical, but it turned out to be pretty good. I got the California Dreamin’ (turkey, lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado) on wheat bread.

And for dessert…lychee. I do have to point out it wasn’t just any ‘ol lychee but Big Island lychee. There’s a big difference, especially in the pocketbook. This one I got was about $5.50/lb. The local Oahu or other imported ones usually go for a couple dollars less a pound.

Big Island Lychee

I don’t think I’ll splurge on these too often, but let me tell you - they were so sweet and juicy! If you ever get the chance, give ‘em a try.

Hi Elle,
It’s one of my favorites too - and I’m glad they weren’t shy with the avocado! ;)

I liked the wraps at Safeway. *sigh* missing grandma’s lychee (she used to live on the big island) can you believe we used to get them free? *sigh*

That sandwich looks good. I have been enjoying avocado lately.

Hey kat,
My grandma also used to have a lychee tree. Sad thing for me was that I didn’t really like lychee all that much when I was small. :(

Hi Kevin,
Me too, thanks for stopping by! :)

Supermarket lunch? Unavoidable when you grocery shop on an empty stomach. Sandwich, chips, maybe a salad from the salad bar…oh, and don’t forget the beer!

Hey rowena,
That’s normally the case, but this time we actually went there specifically to pick up lunch on the way to my parents’ house. We were tired of all the other food places nearby and feeling kind of lazy about driving any farther. :P

Hi noble pig,
You’re right, it’s never good to shop on an empty stomach! :)
