Fishing and a bite to eat at Kua Aina

It’s been a catch and release kind of week. Meaning, we haven’t been able to bring anything up worthy of the dinner table recently. On most days the only bite I get is of whatever I have for lunch. So sad.
However, there have been a couple hook ups. At the first beach (picture above) I brought up a little eel in the afternoon. Disappointed without any fish, we tried some simple handpole fishing and picked up a kupipi…

and a bunch of mamo. All went quickly back into the water to enjoy another day.

At this other place we tried, there were a lot of nibbles on the line but no big bites.

The only thing I reeled in was this scary looking thing. I had to use the forceps to take out the hook and throw it back in.

On the bright side, it’s been fun going around to our various favorite spots around the island. The other day when we were on the North Shore we stopped at Kua Aina in Haleiwa for some lunch.

I haven’t had one of these for a long, long time and forgot how huge they were! I got the grilled eggplant and peppers sandwich while he had the BLT with avocado.
I love those Kua Aina grilled peppers!

Hey kat,
That’s also his favorite sandwich. And if no more grilled peppers I get that too!
Love your fishing tales all the same Lori! If you could only see me dancing in my chair. ^-^ And the burger looks ono-licious!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the fishing stories rowena!
These pictures are so beautiful.
Nice catch. That “scary fish” makes really tasty fish soup. It doesn’t look like it, but it has a fair amount of meat.
Thanks noble pig!
Hi lance,
Thanks for the tip on that fish!
He is scary but beautiful at the same time in a strange way! Yummy looking sandwich!
That is some nice looking scenery! That sandwich looks good too!
Hi Reeni and Kevin,
Thanks for stopping by, it really was a delicious sandwich!
that fish looks creepy! kinda like the one that was on the simpsons movie (with the 3 eyes).
i’m not sure if you ever posted this on your blog, but what kind of camera do you use? or what settings do you use. your fish and beach pictures are so clear and sharp.
Hey Lauren,
I love that Simpson’s fish, so funny! We always talk about it if we’re considering fishing in a place with gross water. After we picture the fish, we go somewhere else!
I use a Sony W80 on both manual and auto settings depending on the lighting. The trick for me is just taking lots and lots of pictures. Then I just hope that one of them in the bunch looks decent. I’m glad you enjoy the pictures!
Dang! Those burgers look doggone good! And grilled ahi sandwhich?!? I have to get myself to Hawaii soooooooon! I think that last fish is really expensive in Japan.
