Steak with Mushrooms and Cabbage

Dried Mushrooms

Are you one of those people that enjoys a mini meal at Costco when it’s food sample time? I am, especially when it’s after work and I’m starving! I rarely buy the things I sample but this time I couldn’t pass up one of my favorite foods…mushrooms.

As you can see on the package there are all kinds of varieties dried up in there. All you need to do is soak it in some warm water then add it to whatever you’re cooking.

Dried Mushrooms Soaking in Water

This is great for me because I always worry about wasting produce in the fridge if I’m not able to use it in time. These things are so convenient and delicious!

For this dinner, first I fried up a piece of steak with salt and pepper. When it was done, I took it out of the pan and drained the fat out. I left the little bits of steak that were stuck to the pan and added the chopped Chinese cabbage and mushrooms that had been soaked.

I cooked that for about 5 minutes adding some of the mushroom water and a touch of sesame oil to the pan. Then I sliced up the steak and added it to the pan for another minute or two.

I realize this dish isn’t as attractive as some other dinners, and that the combo of ingredients are a tad strange. But these were basically the only ingredients I had left in the fridge. And on the plus side it was super simple and tasty, so I’d try making again!

This looks like a great, simple dinner. And yes, I have had the sample Costco meal too, it’s crazy!

I love steak and mushrooms together. This looks delicious! I am known to eat mini meals at a few places that have samples. My huband jokes about it.
