New Eagle Cafe

New Eagle Cafe

We started out this past weekend by heading to Shirokiya for lunch. But as you can see from the title, we weren’t successful.

We like to watch those crazy old Soko Ga Shiritai reruns, and it seems like during each commercial break there would be an ad for the current fair going on at Shirokiya. The thing that stuck out to me, that I was on a mission to get, was the unagi don.

However, when we finally got to Shirokiya I lost my appetite for it. I’m sure it was delicious but at $20 for the large (which looked more like medium to me), we had to pass.

Instead we headed on over to New Eagle Cafe on Nimitz Highway.

New Eagle Cafe

The service here was good. I especially liked how you are asked if you want water on your way to being seated. It’s great on a hot day to have your water right on your table when you sit down.

The amount of variety on the menu was also really good (take a look at the link below). The complete lunch meals come with a choice of soup, salad, or fruit cocktail; rice, mashed potatoes, or french fries; and fruit punch, orangeade, tea, or coffee.

New Eagle Cafe Minestrone Soup

He decided to get soup (minestrone), chicken cutlet with brown rice, and iced tea ($11.45). I had a taste of the minestrone, which I really enjoyed!

New Eagle Cafe Chicken Cutlet

The chicken had an interesting taste though. Kind of…tangy. We couldn’t figure out if it was that way on purpose.

New Eagle Cafe Fruit Cocktail

I had the fruit cocktail, hamburger steak with brown rice, and fruit punch ($11.45).

New Eagle Cafe Hamburger Steak

I enjoyed everything in my meal. The hamburger, onions, and gravy were all done well. All that was missing was an egg to make it into a loco moco!

Shirokiya Mochi

And later that afternoon for dessert, some mochi we picked up from Shirokiya (kinako, peanut butter, and taro).

I think we paid $20 for unagi here but the service wasn’t too good. This lunch at New Eagle sounds delicious.

Hey kat,
When you’re back here you should try Yanagi’s late night specials. I think the unagi don is about $9.00!

Oh you had me at the dessert.

Look at those thick noodles in the soup! Yumm…I feel like something brothy right about now…

Hi noble pig,
Oh yes, the dessert was good. I think my favorite was the taro flavored one. :)

Hi jenny,
That soup was really good. Different from typical minestrone, but good! ;)

That sounds expensive for unagi don! Your lunch at the New Eagle Cafe looked like a better option for the price! And the mochi looks good too!

Hey lauren,
I think the price is comparable to those in Japan, but in Hawaii you’re right, that’s expensive. It sure looked good though!
