Dad’s Birthday at P.F. Chang’s Honolulu

P.F. Chang's Honolulu - Lettuce Wraps

The other weekend we all went out to celebrate my dad’s birthday. Since my mom had a gift certificate to use up, we headed out to P.F. Chang’s near Ward Centre.

We started with the famous lettuce wraps ($9.50) as seen in the picture above. I thought they were pretty good but my younger brother said he prefers the similar lettuce wraps that my mom makes at home. I think they’re both good in their own way.

For a second appetizer, my younger brother chose the Crispy Green Beans ($7.50) for us to share. I thought that was an unusual choice, but after tasting it we all agreed that they were awesome! They’re just like green bean tempura, nice and crispy with a spicy mayo type sauce.

For entrees we really enjoyed both the Cheng Du Spiced Lamb ($16.00) and Mongolian Beef ($17.00).

These Dan Dan Noodles ($13.00) were okay, though I’d probably try a different noodle dish next time.

The Oolong Marinated Sea Bass ($26.00) was very good, but pricey.

Chang’s Spicy Chicken ($15.00) was a sweet and spicy type chicken, great to balance the saltier entrees that we ordered.

Buddha’s Feast ($9.00) was a nice sized serving of vegetables and tofu.

Here’s what my dinner plate looked like after taking a little of everything. It was a lot of food!

And finally, for dessert we all shared this dessert sampler. It had 8 different mini desserts. The ones that I shared were tiramisu and I think strawberry cheesecake. Some of the other flavors were apple pie, smores, chocolate cake, lemon meringue, and carrot cake.

The food at P.F. Chang’s was much better than I expected. Granted it’s not better than my favorite Chinese restaurants, it’s pretty good for a large chain type restaurant. The only thing, as most reviewers have mentioned, is the high price. But since we had a gift certificate we didn’t mind that.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I love PF Changs. The lettuce wraps and green beans are my favorite. Is the dessert sampler new? I haven’t seen that on the menu before.

Hi Lisa,
Yes, those crispy green beans are great! I think the dessert sampler we got was kind of new. My mom and her friends got it when they went here a while ago, but on the menu it says to ask the server about this “new” item.

Hey kat,
Thanks for the birthday wishes! :)

No… not PF Changs! I need to be more open minded, but I had too many bad experiences. I do like the lettuce wraps, but I don’t crave it. Thanks for the review. It will help me the next time I go there.

Hey Kristy,
I know, I hear it’s really hit or miss when you go here. I read up on a lot of local reviews before I went and tried to order just the things that got good reviews. I think you’d like everything we had, except maybe the noodles – boneless minute chicken cake noodle is way better! :D

Ooooh…that marinated sea bass is calling my name. Gotta eat as much as I can while I’m here!

By the by, that shark was fun (being that it’s been ages since), but not much fight. My dad caught a 1-lb papio this evening so next time I’m ALWAYS tagging along when he goes!

Hey rowena,
Aww, too bad you didn’t go along tonight!! I hope you get some more chances to go fishing while you’re here! ;)

I have never been to P F Changs, but I must say that the marinated sea bass looks sooooo delicious. And what a cute way to serve dessert! Yum :)
