Best Japanese Food Restaurants in Hawaii
Yanagi Sushi
You will find much more than just sushi at Yanagi Sushi. They have very good teishokus, appetizers, and Japanese beer on draft. I eat here at least once a month, sometimes twice a month. I really like the salmon skin salad, sushi, and combination dinners. Look for parking on Kapiolani Blvd. if you don’t want to do valet.

Sushi King
Sushi King is another restaurant that offers much more than just sushi. Good combination dinners and sushi are served up with a uniquely hearty miso soup. For combination dinner choices I like the chicken karaage, unagi, tempura, and sashimi. The best deals are their lunch, early bird, and late night specials. If I am in the university area around 5:30 pm, I almost always will go line up for the early bird special. There are different options but I get the California roll, sashimi, and tempura combo, it is delicious.

Kunio Restaurant
I have been going to Kunio ever since they were a tiny little Japanese restaurant in Waikele. They have since expanded at least doubling their seating capacity. Still, the wait during the dinner rush on the weekend is around 30 minutes. People come to Kunio for the very consistent high quality food and large portions. I always order their combination teishoku. Depending on your choices, it costs around $14.00. I usually get either butterfish and tempura or sashimi and tempura for my combination teishoku. Sushi is also good here. If I’m really starving I’ll order a salmon avocado roll in addition to my dinner.
